POPIA notice

Your personal information, your choices and how to contact GCC about the Protection of Personal Information Act.

01

Your information and GCC

The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) sets out conditions for processing personal information. This notice explains the information used by the GCC Skills Development website, part of Gauteng City College (Pty) Ltd. Our Privacy notice describes the forms, purposes, access controls and retention arrangements.

Head office: Forum 6, Braam Park, 33 Hoofd Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

02

When you submit a form

Application and certificate request forms ask for consent to process your information for the request. Where you provide disability information or a supporting medical letter, the application consent covers its use to assess and support your application. Please share only what is relevant.

Some processing may also be necessary for a contract, a legal obligation or another lawful ground under POPIA. A request to withdraw consent does not undo processing already lawfully completed and may affect our ability to continue a request that depends on that consent.

03

Rights you can exercise

Subject to POPIA and any applicable limits, you may:

  • Ask whether GCC holds personal information about you and request access.
  • Ask for inaccurate or incomplete information to be corrected.
  • Request deletion or destruction where there is no lawful reason to keep the information.
  • Object to processing where the law permits, including direct marketing.
  • Withdraw consent for processing that relies on consent.
  • Raise a complaint with the Information Regulator.

04

Make a privacy request

Contact GCC using the details below and address your message to the Information Officer. Use a subject such as “POPIA: access request”, “POPIA: correction” or “POPIA: objection”.

Tell us your name, how to contact you, what you are asking for and your application or certificate reference if you have one. The team may need to verify your identity before releasing or changing records. Avoid sending a full identity document or medical information in your first email; ask how to supply verification securely.

You can find current rights-request forms and guidance on the Information Regulator’s POPIA page.

05

Contact the Information Regulator

You can raise a concern directly with the Information Regulator (South Africa). Its website provides current complaint procedures, forms and contact details.

06

Contact GCC

For privacy or records requests, address your message to the Information Officer via GCC’s general contact channel.
